Tigers drop road trip to Pioneers

Fayetteville High School Tigers went down on the road to Warren Co., 33-7.

"I couldn't be more proud of the guys," Coach Alvin Palmer said. "They played their hearts out. Nobody gives a 1-A team a chance against a 6-A opponent but our guys battled and surprised the Pioneers."

"We got a couple of injured players back but loss one Friday night to a concussion, Will Ellis, his second of the season," Palmer continued. "If anybody needs an open date this week it's us - hopefully we can mend and get a couple more back before we travel to Harpeth."

Friday night the Tigers were first to put points on the board scoring in their opening possession. Akaikua McMullen broke loose for a 51 yard run up the middle. Stephen Yatsko was good on the PAT and with 10:32 in the first FHS was up 7-0.

Fayetteville's defense kept the Pioneers off the board the remainder of the period - the Tigers were up 7-0 at the end of one.

In the second frame Warren Co. scored from the 18-yard line. The PAT was good and it was knotted at 7-7 going to the intermission.

Size and strength became and issue for FHS in the second half. The Pioneers scored twice in the third quarter on a 45 yard run and a 28 yard pass. The Tigers trailed 20-7 headed to the fourth.

Warren Co. tacked on two scores in the final frame on runs of 31 and 5 yards to finish with a 33-7 win at the buzzer.

Fayetteville is open this week before traveling to Harpeth on Oct. 19. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
