Tigers drop opener to Nolensville

Fayetteville High School Tiger Football went down in their season opener at home to Nolensvill High School 41-28. The Knights are a 4-A classification in their second year playing a varsity schedule.

The Tigers jumped out to and early lead when quarterback Jacious Clark connected with Guy Vanhooser from 66 yard out with 10:26 in the first.

But the Knight scored in their next series knotting it at 6-6 with 9:18 on the clock.

Nolensville took advantage of turnovers and put points on the board. The Tigers finished the night loosing two fumbles and throwing two interceptions. FHS trailed 27-6 at the half.

Trailing 34-7 in the fourth Fayetteville tacked on a three scores on a 38 yard run by Xavier Gray, a 1 yard push by Jacious Clark and 22 yard run by Graham Pace.

But the Knights answered taking advantage of turnovers - the Tigers lost two fumbles and had two interceptions during the course of the game.

"I know we were playing up to a larger school but I wasn't happy with our execution, especially on defense," Coach Alvin Palmer said. "There were a lot of mistakes made by both teams - I'm sure some of that was first game jitters. But we've got to fundamentally do a better job."

"We'll learn from it and get better," added Palmer. "We've got Forrest coming in here Friday night and they always have a tough team. They're a 2A program, run a wing-t and play hard nose football."
