Coach Louis Thompson Reception

January 22 - Saturday night the career of Coach Louis Thompson was honored by friends, fans, coaches and former players with a reception at the Fayetteville Golf and Country Club.

Thompson stepped down at the end of the 2010 season as the head coach of Falcon Football at Lincoln County High School following a 22-year career.

With a packed house on hand the numbers present spoke of the impact Coach T has had on the lives of so many.

Conversations of former Falcons reliving their glory days while wearing the “Blue and Red” set the tone for the evening.

“This was truly a great thing, said Falcon Football Club President Kevin Winsett. It was amazing to have that many former Falcons, fans and friends in the same room here to honor Coach Thompson. We were all very pleased with the turnout. It was bigger than anticipated but it goes to show you the impact Louis Thompson has on people’s lives. It was his night and I feel like he and everyone there enjoyed being a part of it.”

“I want to thank the Country Club and the Flower House for having everything taken care of.”

Saying a few words along with Kevin Winsett were the new head coach of Falcon Football Coach Don Thomas, former Falcon and NFL standout, Kelly Holcomb, Coach Dan Winfree, former assistant to Coach T, currently at Brentwood and long time friend Coach Gary Rankin from Alcoa.

Coach T was presented with a ring commemorating his career at Lincoln County High School.

“It was a great night,” Coach Thompson said following the event. “You stay in coaching as long as I have and you make a lot of friends and get to work with some incredible people.”

“I got to visit with some great folks I don’t get to see every day – former players, coaches and parents.”

“I’ve been very fortunate to have spent the past 22 years at Lincoln County High School and I appreciate the opportunities I’ve had,” Thompson continued. “It’s been a great run but it’s time for me to watch the game from a little further back. I’ll be staying on as athletic director for a couple more years and be involved with overall athletics but my head coaching days are over.”

Coach Thompson has worked 42 years in coaching and been a head coach for 36 years.

While at Lincoln County Coach T picked up his 250th career win, one of only four active coaches in the state to reach the milestone as of the 2010 season. His career numbers are 253 wins, 149 losses and 1 tie.

Coach T led the Falcons to State Championships in the 1990 and 1993 seasons.
