Falcon Baseball District Tournament Champs
Lincoln County High School's Falcon baseball played their best baseball of the season down the stretch in district tournament action. The effort gave LCHS a District 8-AAA Tournament Championship, the last coming in 2016.
The win sends the Falcons as a top seed going into Region 4-AAA play hosting Blackman on Monday of this week. The winner will advance, the losers season is over. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
In the district tournament the Falcons swept the field with a 5-4 barn burning win at home over Columbia to stay out of the losers bracket and advance to the champions match up with Shelbyville, the top seeded team coming out of the regular season. In the match up with the Lions the young arms of Chace Treola and Colton Monks kept the Falcons with the lead allowing Ryan McAdams to come in to close the seventh.
In the championship game the Eagles had burned all of their pitching in their must win game over Columbia. The Falcons would put up 19 hits in the title match up taking the win, 17-3.
"I know it was tough for Shelbyville," said Coach Matt Allen. "Pitch management is a big issue for everyone but especially for anyone fighting to get out of the losers bracket - a second loss sends you home."
"I'm so proud of this team," he added. "It's amazing what winning can do. We had some young guys step up and pitch against Columbia that kept us from having to use up our starters - I'm really proud of Chace and Colton. They kept us a lead so Ryan could close."
"We're hitting the ball well and I hope it continues," he said. "Our starters will be rested and ready to do against Blackman. The Falcons very much appreciate the fan support we had for the championship game. The weather should be good and I hope we have a bigger crowd against Blackman."
